Back Pain & Sciatica

Back pain shouldn't run your life.

Whether it's a dull ache that never quite leaves or pain shooting down your leg, we look beyond your spine to find what's really driving it. Then we fix that.

Is this you?

Sound familiar?

If you nodded at any of these, you're in the right place.

Why it happens

Your back is usually the victim, not the culprit.

The lower back sits in the middle of everything, and after years of treating it we can tell you it is usually the victim, not the source. When your hips are stiff, your core isn't doing its share, or an ankle stopped moving well years ago, your spine quietly absorbs the extra work. Day after day, that adds up to pain.

That is why rest, massage, and quick adjustments tend to feel good for a week before the pain creeps back. Until someone finds and fixes what is overloading your back, the cycle repeats. Finding that driver is exactly what our whole-body assessment is built to do.

Myth vs. reality

Things you've heard that aren't true.

Bad information keeps a lot of people hurting longer than they should. Let's clear a few up.

"I should rest until it stops hurting."

Long rest usually makes backs worse. The right movement at the right dose is one of the best-proven treatments for back pain, and we'll show you exactly which movements are safe for you.

"I need an MRI before anyone can help."

Most back pain doesn't need imaging to treat well. Plenty of pain-free adults have “abnormal” MRIs, so the scan often can't tell us what a movement exam can.

"This ends in surgery."

The vast majority of back pain and sciatica improves without surgery. Even herniated discs usually calm down with the right conservative care.

How we treat it

Calm it down, then fix the cause.

Your plan is personal, but it usually draws from these tools.

Hands-on relief first

Manual therapy, mobilization, and soft-tissue work to settle the pain down so we can get to work on the cause.

Find the real driver

A whole-body movement assessment traces your pain back to the stiff hips, quiet core, or immobile ankles that set it off.

How our assessment works →

Dry needling for stubborn knots

Releases the deep muscle tension that keeps backs guarded, tight, and quick to flare.

About dry needling →

Rebuild so it lasts

Progressive strength for your hips and core so your spine stops paying for everyone else's work.

Good questions

Back pain, answered.

Do I need to see a doctor before starting physical therapy?
No. In Illinois you can start physical therapy without a referral. Your therapist screens you thoroughly at the first visit, and if anything needs a physician's eyes, we'll tell you and help you get there.
How should I sleep with sciatica?
Most people do best on their side with a pillow between their knees, or on their back with a pillow under them. It helps you get through the night, but the real fix is what we do about the cause during the day.
How long does sciatica take to get better?
Many patients feel a meaningful change within two to four weeks of starting care. Your therapist will give you an honest timeline after your assessment, based on how your body actually responds.
Is walking good for back pain?
Usually, yes. Walking is one of the best things most backs can do. If walking makes your symptoms worse, that's useful information, and something we'll dig into at your assessment.
My MRI shows a herniated disc. Doesn't that settle it?
Not necessarily. Disc findings are common in people with no pain at all, and most herniated discs improve without surgery. We treat you and how you move, not just the picture.
