Neck & Head

A stiff neck shouldn't be your normal.

Neck pain, tension headaches, and jaw tightness usually travel together. We find the source, often further down your posture chain, and treat that.

Is this you?

Does your neck do this?

Neck trouble shows up in more ways than a crick.

Why it happens

Your neck pays for what happens below it.

Your neck balances a 10-pound head on top of everything your upper back and shoulders do. When your mid-back stiffens from hours at a screen and your shoulders roll forward, your neck has to crane and grip all day just to keep your eyes level. That is the pattern we find behind most stubborn neck pain.

It is also why rubbing or cracking the neck itself rarely lasts. We restore motion in your mid-back and shoulders and rebuild the endurance of the muscles that hold your head up, so your neck can finally stop overworking.

Myth vs. reality

Things you've heard that aren't true.

Bad information keeps a lot of people hurting longer than they should. Let's clear a few up.

"It's just stress."

Stress adds tension, but there's almost always a mechanical piece too. Fix the mechanics and the same stress produces a lot less pain.

"Cracking my neck fixes it."

That pop can feel great for an hour or a day, but it doesn't change why your neck keeps tightening. Relief that lasts comes from treating the cause.

"I just need a better pillow."

A decent pillow helps, but it matters far less than what your neck does the other sixteen hours a day. We'll help with both.

Insurance & getting started

No referral needed. Most insurance accepted.

In Illinois you can start physical therapy without a doctor's referral, so there's nothing standing between you and relief. We accept most major plans and offer self-pay options. Not sure about your coverage? We'll check it for you before your first visit.

Your first visit

What to expect, start to finish.

Here's exactly what your first visit looks like.

1

We listen first

We start with your history, your symptoms, and the goals that matter to you.

2

We find the cause

We look at how your whole body moves to find what's driving your pain, not just where it hurts.

3

You leave with a plan

A hands-on treatment plan built around your body and your life, and a therapist who stays with you the whole way.

Good questions

Neck pain, answered.

Can my neck really cause headaches?
Yes. The joints and muscles of the upper neck can refer pain into the head. These are called cervicogenic headaches, and they respond well to hands-on care and targeted exercise.
How fast will my neck loosen up?
Many patients feel noticeably freer within the first few visits. Building the strength and habits that keep it that way takes a bit longer, and we'll give you an honest timeline up front.
Is it arthritis?
Some neck stiffness after 50 involves normal age-related changes, but those changes show up in plenty of pain-free necks too. Either way, motion and strength are the treatment, and both are trainable.
Should I use heat or ice?
Whichever genuinely feels better to you. Both are short-term relief tools, and neither replaces treating why your neck keeps tightening.
Do you look at my desk setup?
Yes. Ergonomics coaching is part of the plan for desk workers, because your workstation is where your neck spends most of its week.
