Poor Posture

Posture isn't about trying harder.

You can't willpower your way to standing taller. We build the mobility and strength that make good posture your body's default, no reminders required.

Is this you?

Recognize yourself?

Posture struggles look remarkably similar across all of us.

Why it happens

Your body slouches for a reason.

Slouching is not a character flaw, and we will never treat it like one. It is your body settling into the only position it has the mobility and endurance to hold. If your mid-back is stiff, your chest is tight, and your postural muscles fatigue in minutes, no amount of remembering to sit up will win.

So we don't nag. We restore the mobility that lets you get upright and build the endurance that lets you stay there, until tall is simply where your body rests. Capacity first. The habit follows.

Myth vs. reality

Things you've heard that aren't true.

Bad information keeps a lot of people hurting longer than they should. Let's clear a few up.

"There's one perfect posture."

The best posture is your next one. Bodies are built for variety, and movement throughout the day beats any single “correct” position held rigidly.

"A standing desk fixes posture."

Standing changes the stimulus, which helps, but standing badly for eight hours isn't better than sitting badly. Capacity and variety are the real fixes.

"I'm stuck like this."

Tissue adapts at every age. Mid-back stiffness and postural endurance both respond to training whether you're 25 or 75.

How we treat it

Insurance & getting started

No referral needed. Most insurance accepted.

In Illinois you can start physical therapy without a doctor's referral, so there's nothing standing between you and relief. We accept most major plans and offer self-pay options. Not sure about your coverage? We'll check it for you before your first visit.

Good questions

Posture, answered.

How long does it take to change posture?
Most people feel looser and more upright within a few weeks. Making it your automatic default takes a couple of months of consistent capacity-building. Honest answer: faster than you fear, slower than the internet promises.
Does bad posture actually cause pain?
The relationship is more complicated than the headlines say. No single posture guarantees pain, but low capacity plus long hours in any one position is a reliable recipe for it. We treat the capacity.
What's the ideal desk setup?
Screen near eye level, elbows supported around 90 degrees, feet grounded, and, most importantly, permission to move often. We'll tailor it to your actual desk during care.
Do posture correctors work?
Braces that pull your shoulders back mostly remind you to move; they don't build the strength to hold the position. Fine as a cue, not as a fix.
Should I worry about my kid's posture?
Growing bodies slouch and usually self-correct. If it comes with pain, one shoulder sitting visibly higher, or a visible curve, it's worth a screen, and we're happy to take a look.
