FAQs

Questions, answered.

Everything patients ask us most, about treatment, insurance, and what to expect.

Do I need a referral to start physical therapy?
For most plans, no. Illinois allows direct access, which means you can start physical therapy without a doctor's referral. Just call any clinic or request an appointment online. Medicare, workers' comp and some commercial plans do require a referral for coverage, so we'll confirm your benefits before your first visit. If you already have a prescription, bring it and we'll coordinate with your physician.
Where can I find a physical therapist near me?
We have 10 clinics across the greater Chicago area: Beverly, Bridgeport, Edison Park, Evanston, Glenview, Highland Park, Lake Forest, Lincoln Park, Midway, and Sauganash. Find the one closest to you on our locations page and book there.
Do physical therapy treatments hurt?
Therapy shouldn't be about pushing you into pain. Some techniques and exercises can be intense, and it's normal to feel worked, but your therapist adjusts everything to what your body can handle that day. Tell us how something feels and we'll meet you there.
How do I know if physical therapy can help me?
If pain, stiffness, weakness, or an injury is getting in the way of how you want to move, there's a good chance we can help. The honest way to find out is an evaluation. We'll assess how you move and tell you straight whether we're the right fit.
How do I schedule an appointment?
Request an appointment online or call any clinic directly. A real person will help you find a time, usually within a day or two, and verify your insurance before you come in.
Do you treat my condition?
We treat a wide range of orthopedic, sports, neurological, and everyday movement conditions, from back and neck pain to post-surgical recovery, arthritis, and balance issues. Browse our conditions and services, or just call and describe what's going on.
How long will my appointments take?
Plan on about 90 minutes for your first visit, which includes a full evaluation and same-day treatment. Follow-up visits are typically shorter, and your therapist will map out your schedule after the assessment.
Do I need to wear certain clothes?
Wear comfortable clothing you can move in, loose enough to give your therapist access to the area being treated, plus supportive sneakers. For a knee, shorts help; for a shoulder, a tank top works well.
Will my insurance cover my appointments?
We're in-network with major Illinois plans and we verify your specific benefits before your second visit, so you know your coverage up front. Have your insurance card ready when you call and we'll handle the rest.
Will I start noticing relief right away?
Some patients feel better after the first visit, others take a few weeks. It depends on what's driving your pain. What we promise is an honest timeline after your evaluation and a plan built to make relief last, not just mask the symptom.
What's the best way to pay for my sessions?
If you have insurance, we bill your plan and collect any copay or coinsurance at the visit. If you're paying out of pocket, we offer a discounted self-pay rate due at time of service, and we accept cash, check, debit, and all major cards.
What if I don't have insurance?
No problem. We offer a discounted self-pay rate, explained clearly before your first visit, and payment plans are available. Just ask any clinic for current rates.
I'm feeling better but want to keep coming. Can I?
Absolutely. Many patients transition into a maintenance or performance phase once they've recovered, whether that's staying ahead of an old injury or getting stronger for a sport. We'll build a plan that fits your goals.
How should I prepare for my first appointment?
Bring your insurance card, a photo ID, and any prescription or claim information. Wear comfortable clothes, and if you can, fill out your intake form online beforehand so you spend your first visit on care, not paperwork.
