Manual Therapy

Healing, by hand.

Skilled hands-on techniques that ease pain, free up stiff joints, and get your body moving, the foundation of how we treat.

What it can do for you

What skilled hands can change.

There's a reason hands-on care is our foundation.

Eases pain quickly

Targeted hands-on work calms irritated joints and muscles, often from the first visit.

Frees stiff joints

Restores the small, precise joint motions that stretching alone can't reach.

Relaxes guarded muscles

Releases the protective tension that builds around pain and keeps you feeling locked up.

Unlocks better movement

Restoring motion by hand clears the way for the strengthening that makes results last.

In plain English

So, what is it?

Manual therapy is skilled, hands-on treatment: precise pressures, glides, and mobilizations applied to your joints and soft tissue by a trained physical therapist. No machines between you and your care.

It's not a massage, though it can feel just as relieving. Every technique is chosen for a specific joint or tissue, based on what your evaluation found.

How we use it in your care

A tool, never the whole plan.

Hands-on treatment opens the door: it eases pain and restores motion. But if nothing else changes, the same stresses that stiffened you up will do it again.

So we pair it with the second half of the equation, retraining and strengthening the movement pattern that caused the problem, so the relief you feel on the table follows you home and stays.

Common questions, up front

Manual therapy, clarified.

The things everyone wants to know before their first visit.

Does it hurt?

Most techniques feel like firm, purposeful pressure, and many are outright relieving. Your therapist works within your comfort and adjusts to your feedback.

Is it like chiropractic?

There's some overlap in techniques, but our focus is restoring your movement within a full rehab plan, not standalone adjustments.

Why not just get a massage?

Massage relaxes tissue broadly. Manual therapy targets the specific joint or tissue driving your problem, with a clinical goal behind every technique.

Good questions

Manual therapy, answered.

Is manual therapy included in my visits?
Yes. Hands-on care is part of how we practice, not a separate billed add-on.
How soon will I feel a difference?
Many people feel looser and lighter after the first session. Lasting change comes as the strengthening work takes hold.
Is it safe if I have arthritis or osteoporosis?
Yes. Techniques are selected and graded for your body, and your therapist will choose approaches that are safe for your bones and joints.
Will I also get exercises?
Always. Hands-on work opens the window; movement keeps it open.
Do I need a referral?
For most plans, no. Illinois direct access lets you book directly with us. Medicare and workers' comp do require a referral, and we'll confirm your coverage before your first visit.
